Background

I went to medical school and completed my basic surgical training, followed by two years’ research in South Wales. I completed my specialist training in general and vascular surgery in the midlands before being appointed as a consultant vascular surgeon in Blackburn in 2000.

In the years since my appointment I have seen the emergence of Vascular Surgery as a separate speciality with East Lancashire Hospitals Trust becoming a recognised Specialist Centre in 2013.

My clinical interests are in minimally invasive vascular surgery and I regularly perform angiograms and stents for arterial disease as well as treating varicose veins with radio-frequency ablation under local anaesthetic. I have considerable experience in hospital management and am the clinical Director of Vascular Surgery and the Deputy Director of the Surgical Division.

Research interests

I am interested in reducing the impact of surgery using minimally invasive techniques and local anaesthetic where possible. I have published work on venous leg ulcers, complex vascular disease in diabetics and pioneered “treatment room” procedures for varicose veins in the North West.
