Background

Julie Iddon is a graduate of St Andrews and Manchester Medical Schools. Most of her surgical training was in the South Manchester breast unit and North West region with 6 months in the Edinburgh breast unit. She has been trained in basic general surgery, breast cancer surgery and treatment and breast reconstruction.

During her training she was awarded the Lilian May Coleman research fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was subsequently successful in attaining an MD for research into bony metastases. She is the author of a number of peer reviewed publications and a chapter on ‘Mastalgia’ in the ABC of breast diseases, a popular textbook.

Julie has worked in the NHS since graduation in 1991 and has been surgical consultant since 2005, initially in the University Hospitals of South Manchester then moving to East Lancashire in 2007. She has been responsible for a number of service developments:  the provision of a local breast reconstruction service since 2007, ‘one stop’ breast clinics in 2010 and developing the patient led follow up service which started in 2016.

Research interests

Principle investigator for ‘POETIC’ and ‘Bridging the age gap’ multi centre clinical trials.
