What we do

The CCU is a purpose built 10 bedded unit that patients are admitted to for diagnosis and treatment of acute heart problems.

How to access the service

The CCU accepts patients via direct referral from:

  • Emergency dept
  • Cardiology clinics
  • general wards
  • Cardiac Catheter lab and
  • Assessment units from both RBTH and BGTH.

Admissions must go through a senior clinician such as:

  • Emergency Department consultant
  • Medical Registrar on call
  • Cardiology  Registrar
  • Associate specialists
  • Cardiology consultants

Where to find us

The CCU is located near the Emergency Department on level 1 at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital

Please note - there is NO visitor access to the Coronary Care Unit from the Emergency Department.
