Following a fundraising day on 26 July, Darwen Golf Club presented ELHT&Me, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s charity, with a donation of £2, 128.25 for the care of dementia patients in both the hospital sites and across community services.

The club was visited by European Tour professionals Lee Slattery and Jamie Donaldson as part of the fundraising day, who recounted their vast experience of golf around the world for those in attendance. Attendees also played golf and took part in a raffle and auction.

Ian Geogarty, Secretary of Darwen Golf Club, said; “The Lady Captain and many members of the club have had personal experiences of dementia, as they have family members who have a diagnosis, so this is a cause the club are proud to support.

“We hope that the money donated can be used to help patients with dementia, to make their experience more comfortable and more positive.”

Denise Gee, Fundraising Manager at ELHT&Me, said: “By donating funds for dementia patients, Darwen Golf Club has enabled us to make a real difference across many areas of care across East Lancashire, as patients within many of our services have a dementia diagnosis.

“This donation means that staff caring for a patient who has dementia can go the extra mile that wouldn’t normally be covered by standard NHS funding, so it is much appreciated!”
