Hello everybody, welcome to my first blog of 2019!

It seems like only yesterday we were preparing for the millennium and yet that was twenty years ago! I wonder what this year has in store for us? It has already begun positively with the news that the NHS has coped better than last year with the winter pressures. This is of course, due to many factors- the most important being the continued dedication of our wonderful staff, who work tirelessly day in, day out, for our patients. Let’s hope the rest of winter is manageable too!

New Year is traditionally a time for resolutions - maybe giving up alcohol, losing weight, learning a new skill, or improving your diet. I support everyone who has resolved to do something to improve their health and wellbeing. As an organisation, we care for your wellbeing – it helps to build resilience, confidence and contentment. We have a health and wellbeing strategy that is being implemented to help – please take advantage of it.

The closing date for the annual ELHT Star Awards is fast approaching – it’s next week! There are so many of our staff who deserve an award, there should be thousands of nominations. Please don’t forget to nominate your colleagues, or even yourself, for this recognition.

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families and friends a very happy and healthy New Year. We have lots to look forward to at ELHT and so much to be proud of. I hope that 2019 is bigger and better for us all.
