Patients at Burnley General Teaching Hospital recently received a double boost with not one, but two, donations from the hospital’s League of Voluntary Workers.

The hospital’s breast care nurses received a £2,000 donation from The League of Voluntary Workers which will purchase equipment for the new Breast Care Unit that is due to open later this year.

And the Gynaecology and Breast Ward are also celebrating after the latest delivery of special packs of toiletries provided by League of Voluntary Workers volunteers.

Both donations were handed over during a visit by volunteers Winn McGeorge MBE, Irene McHattie, David Thomas, Judith Welsh and Joan Carpenter.

“The League of Voluntary Workers has been proudly supporting the patients and staff at Burnley General Teaching Hospital for more than 60 years,” says Chair, Joan Carpenter.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated. The support we receive from individuals and businesses helps many patients and every penny we raise goes to support Burnley General Teaching Hospital.”

Thanking the volunteers for their donations, Gynaecology and Breast Ward Sister Christine Holt said: “We’re very grateful to the League of Voluntary Workers for the many packs of toiletries they have donated which contain essential items such as toothpaste, soap and deodorant. “

“These are given to patients who arrive in hospital in need and with very few possessions, to make their stay on our Ward more comfortable.”

The League of Voluntary Workers raises funds with a ‘Table Top Sale’ on the third Thursday of each month (10am to 3pm) in the Phase 5 Reception Area at Burnley General Teaching Hospital (next to WH Smiths).
