Children's Minor Illness Unit
This is a short stay unit where children with minor illness can be seen and assessed by experienced paediatric nurses and doctors. Children who are unwell can be observed for a few hours with the aim of being discharged home. The unit receives referrals from GP surgeries, the Urgent Care Centre at Burnley, midwives and nurse practitioners.
The unit undertakes some investigations as deemed necessary and liaises with other professionals such as health visitors, school nurses, safeguarding, physiotherapists and dieticians.
Children may also be referred to the unit to have other procedures such as dressings changed, intravenous therapy (such as antibiotics after inpatient admission).
Children are accepted at the unit between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm Monday to Friday and 12.00 noon to 6.00 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays and the unit is available for advice until 8pm.

Facilities for Parents
Hospital restaurant located in close proximity to the unit.
Parents/relatives are advised to stay with the child until discharged or transferred to Royal Blackburn Hospital. Maximum two visitors per patient recommended.
Entrance to the Unit
Access is by speaking to staff via the intercom system at the main door.
