Acute Medical Unit (AMU) - B

What we do

Patients are referred to the AMU from the Emergency Department, by GPs or other health professionals. Patients will be initially assessed by a nurse who will record vital signs such as temperature, pulse and blood pressure. Other diagnostics such as blood tests and x-rays may also be required. After review by medical staff and a consultant the patient may be discharged or sent to a medical ward to continue their treatment. Patients who are thought to be discharged within 2-3 days may stay on the AMU under the care of an Acute Physician.
