Children's Ward

The Children’s Ward provides hospital care for all babies, children and young people from a few days old up to the age of 16 (or older for children with special needs). We have children cared for by a our own Paediatricians (children's doctors) plus a variety of medical and surgical specialities including General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Maxillo Facial, children and young people with mental health issues (ELCAS).

There is a dedicated play team for the children consisting of Hospital Play Specialists and Nursery Nurses, and for older children we have an Education service where children can attend school on the ward and our School teacher will liaise with their schools to ensure their education is continued.

Breakfast is served between 8.00 am and 9.00 am on an individual basis and for any early birds or late risers we can cater for them too.  Lunch of soup and sandwiches is served around 12.00 noon and a hot meal with wide choice being served around 5.00 pm. Trolleys with juice are available around the ward and we will endeavour to do our best to meet any dietary requirements.

We have a policy of open visiting for parents and carers and from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm for other visitors (3 visitors at a time as per hospital policy), and look forward to you visiting our unit.   If you have any questions about visiting please contact the ward sister.

Security Policy

The ward is accessed by speaking to staff via the intercom system at the main door.  It is helpful to know which side of the ward you are visiting A, B or C.  Please be patient, if the nurses don't immediately answer the buzzer, they may be busy caring for children.
