The Acute Medical Unit - A is located on level 1 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
patients are referred to the AMU from the Emergency Department, by GPs or other health professionals. Patients will be initially assessed by a nurse who will record vital signs such as temperature ,pulse and blood pressure. Other diagnostics such as blood tests and x-rays may also be required. After review by medical staff and a consultant you may be discharged or sent to a medical ward to continue your treatment. Patients who are thought to be discharged within 2-3 days may stay on the AMU under the care of an Acute Physician.
